Romans 1:2-3 Good News

Romans 1:2-3

God promised this Good News long ago through his prophets in the holy Scriptures. The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.

What would you call good news?

The war is over.  Got tax money coming back.  The pain I feel is nothing serious and should be back to normal soon.  Getting married.  Not getting married. What ever you call good news brings a time of happiness and relief.

Paul calls the Gospel of Jesus the Good News.  The Old Testament especially Psalms and Isaiah speaks of the Good News of God’s salvation and of a coming Good News for all people.  Jesus is the Good News.  While He was preaching Jesus called the subject Good News, or the Kingdom or the Gospel.  It’s all the same.  So what exactly is the good news?It is what Jesus did for us.

Romans is not a “how-to ” book for us.  It is a book about  Jesus and what HE has done for us.”

The good news is we don’t and can’t become holy or righteous on our own.  Our sinful nature will defeat us every time.  BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS JESUS BRINGS OFFERS US HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS BECAUSE OF WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED ON THE CROSS.

Romans is not a book of history but a book that revels the lostness and hopelessness of every man and woman on our own.  We justify ourselves by comparing our deeds to others worse than ours.  But the reality is anyone, even the most holy living person you know, falls short of God’s requirement of righteousness.  Romans shows us our hopeless nature…but the Good News is Christ has provided help for us.  It is powerful and life changing.  It is also nothing we can earn or achieve.  The Good News is it’s a free gift through faith in Christ.
