Holy Spirit – God’s power in us

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Ephesians 3:20).

The apostle Paul speaks specifically of God the Holy Spirit in this verse.

Since Jesus resurrected from death and ascended back to heaven, the Holy Spirit came to earth and was poured out to Christians in the upper room. He is still being poured out upon Christians today. Acts 1:8 say “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”

We can mature as Christians by learning more about the Holy Spirit. As we grow in the knowledge of Him, we can grow in understanding and strength as His voice and power are implanted into our spirit. As we focus on Ephesians 3:20, we can learn the following:

He (the Holy Spirit) is able to do exceedingly abundantly more in our lives.

Notice Genesis 1:2-3 it was the Holy Spirit moving over the dark earth as God said, “Let there be light,” and by God’s voice and the power of the Holy Spirit, there was light. In the same way, the Holy Spirit can work exceedingly and abundantly in our own lives. Paul did not preach by his wisdom and knowledge, but by the power of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:4 “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.”

He is able to do what we ask.

If you have received Christ as your savior, the Holy Spirit is in you. He can hear your prayers. Speak to Him as one of the Godhead. Pray to God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is able to do what you ask of Him.

He is able to do what we think (but dare not ask)

He reads our thoughts, and sometimes we imagine things for which we dare not ask. The Holy Spirit even knows our dreams. It just might be the Holy Spirit who is birthing those dreams in your life if they are about Godly things!

The Holy Spirit has all knowledge and all power.

He is able to do all that we ask or think, for he knows it all and can perform it all. Sometimes we do not know what to do, but the Holy Spirit knows. He is waiting for you to seek His advice.

His expectations are higher than ours.

He can do more than all we ask or thinkThe Holy Spirit has greater plans for you than you have for yourself. He will challenge you and empower you to more extraordinary achievements for God.

According to the power that works in us.

We restrain this power by not seeking and trusting in Him. Notice the words at the beginning of the verse and the end. “Now to Him who is able…according to the power that works in us.” We are the ones who need to rely more on the Holy Spirit to give us power, wisdom, the words to say, and directions during the day.

All these things are available to you as you grow in knowledge and reliance on the Holy Spirit, the third God of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is almighty, all-knowing, omnipresent, lives in the past and future, and He is your personal friend sent by God to equip, empower, and mature you to be a witness to others of the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

It is ok to pray to the Holy Spirit as God or Jesus. He is one of the Gods in the Trinity. Speak to Him and ask for wisdom, power, and enlightenment of the Scriptures. You will learn to hear His voice and feel His power in you.

Let your LIGHTNSIDE burn brighter and stronger by the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit working in you.
