Psalms 51:10a: Realignment Step 1: New Heart

Psalms 51:10a “Create in me a clean heart, O God!”

A New Heart

Psalms 51 is a great verse to read and pray frequently. It is especially needed in times of trouble or pressure. Our fallen nature and emotions sometimes get us out of alignment with God. You can lose your footing and begin to slide toward some of the traps of the fallen nature, helped by the enemy of our soul, Satan.

I use this verse often to align myself to a right relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This verse is divided into four sections we will cover in four blogs. I hope you will be blessed by my thoughts, and may the Holy Spirit give you even more revelations from this scripture.

Part 1. Create in me a new heart, O God.

Create in me

As we travel in this life, our heart collects various poisons. As events of pressure, pain, or even pleasure come along our paths, our heart is affected. The poisons of the enemy and our fallen nature begin to collect and grow in the fertile environment of our hearts. Pride, anger, desire, and resentment can increase, affecting our spirit and relationships with God. We can also be filled with the wrong fuel, like failure, brokenness, fear, intimidation, and faithlessness. Our hearts are like a womb that can grow whatever is planted.

Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Life revives around our hearts. The problem is we cannot use our hearts to fix our hearts. That would be like trying to examine our vision with bad eyes. We are not capable of restoring our hearts after they become poisoned. We need a new heart. A damaged heart cannot fix itself.

A new heart

I ask God to work in me to do what I cannot do and create a new heart in me. The process is for us to first look into your heart and repent of what is there. Identify your sins, identify your failures to God. Look in the past days and repent the thoughts, feelings, and sinful actions to God. Ask Him to forgive you. Ask Jesus to flood this new heart with His precious blood that will never lose its power. The first part of realignment is to understand you need a new heart, and only God can do this in you. David understands without a new heart, we are on a downward path to trouble. Confess and bow before the cross.

Oh God!

My greatest need is the creative work of God with a new heart.
A new heart where the Holy Spirit can live. One that can be filled with hope, faith, love of Christ, and joy.

Let the Lord create in you a new bright lightnside heart.
